The prophet Isaiah speaks of the Garment of Praise for the spirit of heaviness.
It is apparent that our age is one of heaviness. Just read the daily newspaper or listen to the news reports on the TV or radio and you will learn of wars, earthquakes and other natural disasters, murders, gang wars, white collar crime, drug abuse, and the list goes on. But Isaiah gives a solution for this heaviness. His solution is the garment of praise. It is interesting that he calls praise a garment. A garment is an article of clothing. The word
garment comes from the base word garnish, meaning to equip, adorn, decorate, embellish, furnish or cover. Obviously without a garment one is nude. The Bible says that Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden
naked and not ashamed. They did not need a covering for their nakedness until they sinned. Sin connects nakedness and shame together. Before the fall, man needed no covering. But fallen man cries out for a cover for his shame. upon realizing their sin, the first man and woman fashioned the first human garments from fig leaves. These coverings were inadequate and consequently, God prepared skins to cover their bareness. Just like physical garments are able to cover our physical nakedness and shame, protecting us from exposure to the elements and

the exploitation of our imperfections to others, praise is able to cover our mental and emotional nakedness and shame. Words of praise can supply an adequate covering to protect from the onslaught of so much negativity that plagues us daily. On the other hand words of ridicule and condemnation have the ability to strip us of our dignity and expose our imperfections to others. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” With our words we can build others up or tear them down, we can edify or destroy. I want to challenge you to use this biblical principle of praise to enhance the lives of those you come in contact with. You can make a profound positive difference
in the lives of others by utilizing the garment of praise.
